Prevention and Management Of Violence & Aggression Training

While it can be demonstrated that all staff who work in healthcare and with the public may at some point face a risk of violence and aggression, not all staff face the same risk. Therefore the training is split into modules linked to an assessment of risk to ensure that each staff member takes part in the most suitable training programme:

  • Module 1 PaMoVA training is the theoretical (awareness) component and is the minimum mandatory requirement for all NHS Lanarkshire staff. It is designed for low risk staff.
  • Module 2 is designed for those staff who may need to de-escalate and/or escape from a threatening or unacceptable hold.
  • Module 3 is designed for those staff who may have to contain a violent situation i.e. using safe methods of control and restraint and/or where no other safer option is available.

What Are the Benefits of PaMoVA training?

Where higher levels of training have been undertaken, this can enhance the confidence of staff, permitting them to make more informed and hopefully safer, professional and personal decisions including avoiding the escalation of a difficult situation or when appropriate withdrawing from a violent or aggressive incident.
