Health for Employability

The Health for Employability Programme assists clients to move closer to or return to the labour market in South Lanarkshire.  The service provides individual pre-employment packages to those who are currently seeking a route back to employment, education or training but experiencing difficulties due to health and/or social circumstances. 

A Case Manager will complete a comprehensive assessment, develop an action plan and co-ordinate treatment.  The assessment includes a range of pre-programme measures that are repeated mid programme and/or on completion to evidence the client's progress.  The programme provides quick access to the following services where appropriate:

  • Counselling
  • Physiotherapy
  • Bowen Therapy
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy

They may also provide signposting to services for help and advice on issues such as employment, housing and debt.  All treatments and interventions are arranged in local community venues whenever possible.

To be eligible for this programme, clients must meet the following criteria:

  • unemployed
  • live in South Lanarkshire
  • experiencing health and well-being barriers to employment

Clients can be referred to Health for Employability by:

  • Routes to Work South
  • JobCentre Plus
  • Any partner within the South Lanarkshire Working For You (SLW4U) pipeline
  • Various other partner agencies

Health for Employability provides clients with access to several free, confidential services and aims to refer to services quickly thus helping to prevent further deterioration of health problems.  The Case Manager liaises with a variety of services and relevant professionals to ensure effective outcomes.

Health for Employability is a South Lanarkshire Council initiative which receives European funding.
