Fire Safety Legislation

The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order came into force during 2005 and resulted in a new Fire Scotland Act being implemented. This new legislation means all previous Fire Legislation is repealed.

All Fire Safety requirements are now based on Fire Risk Assessments being carried out for all premises.  If five or more employees are at work within the premises, the Fire Risk Assessment when completed must be documented and should be made available for inspection, if requested.

The Fire and Rescue Services are now the enforcing authority for this legislation; this therefore restricts their ability to offer the advice and guidance we have become accustomed to, over the years.

Fire Safety Training should still be provided annually, and Fire evacuations take place regularly.
