What is Occupational Hygiene?

Occupational Hygiene is concerned with the recognition, evaluation and control of environmental factors that may affect the health and well-being of people at work.

Every year, thousands of workers are made ill or have existing medical conditions exacerbated as a result of exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace. In order to prevent this and to demonstrate compliance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations, employers should have atmospheric monitoring carried out regularly to ensure that their employees are not being exposed to concentrations of hazardous substances likely to cause adverse health affects and demonstrate their their control measures are working effectively.
